  1. Not knowing a lot about autism this is a must read book. It will open your eyes to what a family really does go through. The ups and downs that they deal with. Myself personally hope there is another one from the author it has helped me to understand what a family really goes through.

  2. We are so blessed to have found this book!! It was recommended to me by my son’s teacher. To be able to read about the struggles and triumphs makes my journey a little bit less alone.
I am already reading it again! God is good!! He makes NO mistakes. And this book reminds me just how perfect my son is in his own unique way.
    Thank you.

    1. Thanks Mesha! If you learn nothing else from my book, it’s that God makes NO mistakes and is good all the time! He also didn’t make a mistake when He made you your son’s “mom”! Please call me or email me anytime when you need to talk, because you are not alone!

  3. To say it was awesome would be an understatement! Your love and passion for your God and family was quite evident! Also was impressed with your patience in raising both Tommy and Jack! But knowing you I’m not surprised!

  4. Truly an extraordinary read. This has to be an inspiration to all, especially those parents facing some or any of the challenges that Teresia and her husband have.

  5. As a grandma of an autistic child, I have to say that this book is AMAZING! It depicts what families go through on a daily basis to understand, support, and teach someone who’s brain works totally different than most. The 10 lessons chapter is my favorite, as I can reflect on times with my grandson in all of the lessons. Teresia, thank you for sharing such an open, honest view of the struggles and rewards of raising a superhero. I admire your strength and wisdom, and I look forward to meeting you one day.

    1. Thank you so much for your feedback Kim! It really means a lot to me. I pray it will be helpful to your family and I look forward to meeting you one day as well!!

  6. What a great read! I enjoyed every moment of this book, while some parts sent tears streaming my cheeks, others had me giggling, and a few times I felt like God was speaking directly to me through Mrs. Teresia’s words.

I had the privilege of growing up with Jack and Tommy. I knew them through church and school. Their dad was one of the most influential teachers I had. The stories Mrs. Teresia shared helped develop a better understanding of their lives and challenges I never knew of, while also reminding me of memories with them.

I highly recommend this book. A heartfelt and honest account for anyone seeking understanding about autism, inspiration for parenting or just a great, wholesome read.

    1. Wow! Now you are making me cry Laci! Thanks so much for the feedback. It means so much to me and I do feel like God has something for everyone in this book. That is why I included the hard parts and was obedient to the Lord and left them in. I know He will use it in so many ways! Thanks again!

  7. This book is an easy read which can be done a chapter at a time, if you can put it down, with its engaging style and content. Speaking with an authentic voice, the author shares Biblical truth and abundant wisdom gleaned from time in the trenches on her family’s journey with two sons with very different forms of autism, and their accompanying unique sets of needs and challenges.
The book will be of particular interest to families dealing with autism, but there is plenty to benefit all parents and plenty to encourage anyone. I was particularly impressed with, and inspired by, Teresia’s creativity and persistence in discovering ways to help and connect with her sons.
The chapter which Teresia says was the most difficult to write contains what is perhaps the most valuable content in the book, as she speaks to the inevitable questions that arise for a parent with a child with disabilities, and shares what she entitles “God”s Revelation and My Release.”
My husband and I know this family, and have seen both the fruit of John and Teresia’s parenting in their two adult sons, and their joy in the journey. There are actually four Superheroes in this family! Thanks, Teresia, for being obedient to the Lord and sharing your story. I know it will be a blessing to many!

  8. I read “How To Train A Superhero” and really enjoyed it. Teresia was very vulnerable in the sharing of her experiences. As a parent myself I recognized some of the feelings she expressed. Her book about the experiences of raising Tommy were insightful, funny, touching, and heartwarming. She revealed her heart in a way that all parents that struggle with kids can understand. I definitely recommend this book to all parents of kids, autistic or not.

  9. To read “How to Train a Superhero: A Story of Autism” is to hear Teresia Dulaney’s heart, as if she is speaking right next to you. If you know her, then you can hear her voice as you read it. I loved it. I agree with others in that it can speak to and encourage any parent. Thank you Teresia for your transparency in every chapter of this book, and your Godly words of encouragement. Every life God has a purpose for, and He uses each one for His glory!

  10. I couldn’t put the book down. A must read for any parent and certainly those with a child on the autism spectrum. It is sincere and from the heart. I love the pride that Tommy Man has in his dealings with the project. You should be so
proud of yourself and your children. You are an amazing woman. Love you girl.

  11. This book is about a mom’s journey with uncovering her son’s disabilities (over 30 years ago when it wasn’t a quick diagnosis), the ways she learned how to communicate with and raise her sons, and the great impact that being a woman of faith had on her ability to do it all with great success. She shares her innermost struggles and moments she felt like a failure, and I have to be honest, it’s raw and amazingly helpful for any parent. Teresia is a hero, too. She took on adversity, fear, love, joy, tears, and long-held pain and shared it all in this very open book, and she did it all in the name of God’s glory. Thank you for giving us all the story of Tommy Man!

  12. Like!! I blog quite often and I genuinely thank you for your information. The article has truly peaked my interest.

  13. Wow! A very interesting book in the life of “Autusim”! Knowing bot you and your sons has made it so much easier to understand. I admire you as a mother, a teacher and now a writer. May God continue bless each of you is my prayer!

  14. I laughed, and cried a lot when I read this book. It is a must read for parents with children and teachers going through similar situations in life! I know the author personally and I am so happy she wrote this book and look forward to a sequel!

  15. I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN!!! Literally. How to Train A Superhero: A Story of Autism, took me on a journey I did not expect to take. I went up, down, and around with emotions, feeling like I was in the room or building of each chapter, holding my breath and clutching my pearls. I do not have an Autistic child but this book could have helped me tremendously in raising my son. I HIGHLY recommend this astonishing book to anyone who has children or getting ready to start a family. This is a gift you can give any mother and father around the world. It’s the book that keeps on giving. It’s an easy read and you can revisit the different chapters as needed. Talk about inspiration…this is IT. I could sincerely go on and on about this captivating story. I am honored to have worked and known the Dulaney family and call them friends. Jack and Tommy made my day over and over again…..and yes, Tommy has never forgotten my birthday, and always wishes me Happy

  17. Hello-
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to your Gift Shop today and meeting the members of your remarkable family. I think there is not much to stop you Teresia Dulaney in doing whatever you set your mind to and Tommy Man must have inherited that trait as well. You spoke about making a movie and I noted that the Goldmark Farm owner did some moviemaking himself. I will be in touch with you soon.
